Designer Engagement Rings

You’ve found the perfect partner and now you need to find the perfect engagement ring. If you’re a fan of Sex in the City, and favor designer handbags and designer shoes, consider a designer diamond engagement ring. After all, unlike the purse or handbag, your ring will never go out of style, and you’ll wear it 24/7 for the rest of your blissful married life.

Top 10 Proposal Ideas for Summer

With summer weddings on everyone’s calendar, guys in long term relationships will soon be getting the nudge with “the look” at places of worship around the country. If this sounds like the situation you’ll be facing soon, you know what it means: it may be time to pop the question.

If it’s your time, congratulations! You are about to enter a period in your life that is full of romance and celebration. Whether it’s the perfect ring, or the perfect proposal, one of the friendly and experienced engagement experts at Robbins Brothers can help. To get started on the search for the perfect engagement ring, call 1-800-610-RING. And to get you excited about the proposal, here are my Top 10 Proposal Ideas for the summer of 2008:

  1. Pack a picnic basket and dine in the park, after dark. Set candles in the shape of a heart around a blanket and share a bottle of champagne and a gourment deli meal. Look for shooting stars and ask her to marry you in a way she’ll never forget.
  2. Attend your local fair or amusement park and propose on the Ferris wheel when you’re at the top.
  3. Find out if your favorite band is in town. You may be able to have the promoter arrange a surprise proposal on-stage!
  4. Long Beach and Newport Beach (both in Southern California) offer romantic gondola rides, and the gondolier will seranade you during the proposal.
  5. Cities like Houston, Dallas and Chicago have gorgeous lakes and waterways. Charter a boat for an unforgettable proposal as the sun sets.
  6. In San Diego, book a dinner cruise and ask the one you love to marry you with with the lights of downtown and Coronado twinking in the horizon.
  7. Baseball fans? Contact Robbins Brothers or the marketing department of your favorite team and propose with the help of a Jumbotron, the players on the baseball diamond, and thousands of fellow baseball enthusiasts.
  8. Many cities offer horse-drawn carriage rides on weekends. (Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga, near Robbins Brothers’ stores in Montclair and Riverside, offers this service, too.)
  9. Find a July 4th fireworks show and propose during the grand finale. Make sure you have a friend there to take lots of photos, as you’ll want to remember the spectacular background you had for this memorable occasion.
  10. Propose on 8/8/8 and you’ll experience prosperity and good fortune, according to Chinese culture. As an added bonus, the “8″ on its side is the symbol for infinity. Not a bad way to kick off your engagement!

Happy engagements!

Personalize Your Wedding Bands with an Engraved Message

Many couples who come to Robbins Brothers, World’s Biggest Engagement Ring Store to purchase wedding bands request engraved messages for the inside of the bands. Here are some suggestions for your personal engravings:

  • Yours Truly
  • Love/Love (for tennis players)
  • Symbols (a heart, a cross)
  • Amor Vincit Omnia (Latin, “Love Conquers All”)
  • “A Deal’s a Deal” (engraved on the bands of Courtney Cox-Arquette & David Arquette)

Metal Choices for Your Engagement Ring or Wedding Band

What metal is the right metal for the ring you’ll wear forever? It is a matter of personal preference and budget, of course.

Platinum: this naturally white metal is pure, rare and eternal. Over time, it develops a rich patina. Robbins Brothers carries platinum rings by several designers, including Jeff Cooper, Scott Kay, Tacori, Simon G. and Bridget Durnell.

Palladium: another excellent option for those who prefer a natural white metal. It is hypoallergenic and a perfect alternative to white gold. Like platinum, It is an excellent metal choice to enhance the beauty of diamonds. Robbins Brothers carries the largest selection of palladium rings in the United States.

White Gold: a rich, white, mirror like luster perfect for setting fine diamonds, the classy look of white gold enhances the tradition of engagement rings and wedding rings. Note: this metal needs to be rhodium-plated periodically to maintain the white finish.

Yellow Gold: This precious metal is not as popular today as in past decades, but is still an excellent choice in 14K or 18K for the engagement ring or wedding band. (The choice of yellow or white metal is usually determined by the metal the bride or groom to be usually wears.)

Two-tone or Muliti-tone: Yellow Gold, White Gold, Platinum, Titanium, Tungsten, Brass and more … rings made with combinations of these metals help to create that unique style that represents the uniqueness of your relationship.

Robbins Brothers helps Iraqi War Hero with Perfect Proposal

Robbins Brothers in Chicago helps Iraqi War Hero with Perfect Proposal

Adam, an Iraqi war veteran, came to Robbins Brothers, World’s Biggest Engagement Ring Store in Oak Brook (Chicago) Illinois, with the hopes of finding the perfect engagement ring for his girlfriend, Brooke. After finding the perfect ring, Adam decided to utilize the complimentary Perfect Proposals planning service. The couple’s third anniversary was coming up and the tradition was to go to a Chicago White Sox game to celebrate their relationship.

This year was no different; Adam had already purchased White Sox tickets for the game on April 14th, 2008. To make the day even more special, Robbins Brothers helped out with reserving a private table at The Clubhouse restaurant where the couple enjoyed a wonderful meal before the game.

To Brooke’s surprise, there was a limo outside the restaurant waiting to take them to U.S. Cellular field. Adam asked for Brooke’s hand in marriage during the limo ride. Of course she said YES!!!

To make the day even more special, Robbins Brothers had their marriage proposal announcement posted on the Jumbo-tron.

Congratulations on your Perfect Proposal, Adam and Brooke!

Romantic Proposal Ideas

45 Perfect Ways to Propose

(List compiled by the Perfect Proposals team at Robbins Brothers)

  1. Pop the question at the location where you had your first date.
  2. Plan a treasure hunt with the clues leading her to a note that asks her to marry you.
  3. At the movie theater with your proposal on the big screen.
  4. Following a romantic dinner – have the waiter bring out her favorite dessert and the proposal written out around the plate.
  5. Write out “Marry Me” in the sand at the beach.
  6. Ride a hot air balloon and, as you take off, have the staff below unroll a banner with your proposal.
  7. Bring her one rose each night, for 11 nights. On the 12th night, give her a rose with a card inside that asks you to marry her. Then get on one knee and put the engagement ring on her finger.
  8. If you attend a place of worship, walk up with her to the altar following a service. With the pastor, priest or rabbi there (and in on the surprise) tell her you want to stand at this location with her when you become husband and wife. Then get on one knee and propose!
  9. Treat her to a decadent breakfast at a five-star hotel, and tell her that you couldn’t wait until evening to ask her to marry you.
  10. In a horse-drawn carriage around Central Park (or other popular tourist sites in your area).
  11. Plant your proposal as a message in a bottle and partially cover it with sand on the beach.
  12. If you are both avid skiers or snowboarders, propose at the top of the black diamond run.
  13. At a Chinese restaurant, with the fortune in the cookie asking her to marry you.
  14. In a box of M&Ms with “marry me” printed on the candy.
  15. Flying together? Let the flight attendants know ahead of time, then tell your girlfriend you are going up front to get some water. Then, have the pilot or attendant make an announcement: “Hello everyone. We hope you are enjoying your flight today. We have a special guest on board today, (your girlfriend’s name here) sitting in seat number X, row X. Go ahead and come on up here! Then, you’ll come out from hiding, get on the microphone, and tell her how much you love her, then propose 30,000 feet in the sky! Have the crew pass around bubbly (7 Up will do) and celebrate with everyone on board.
  16. On Christmas Eve, in front of the tree.
  17. In front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle at Disneyland.
  18. At the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, over a glass of champagne at the top floor lounge at sunset.
  19. During a gondola ride: Venice, Italy, Naples in Long Beach, California, or at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. All romantic!
  20. When your favorite singer or band is in town, propose just before your favorite song is sung.
  21. New Year’s Eve, at a party with all your friends and family.
  22. Propose at a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Don’t forget the picnic and a bottle of bubbly!
  23. If you are both golfers, have a ball imprinted with “marry me”. Give her the ball to put on the tee, but have her “inspect” it first. Then, open the golf ball-shaped ring box when you get down on bended knee.
  24. Arrange to go on air with her favorite radio DJ, and have her listen on her way to work when you propose.
  25. Have a wine tasting party at your house, with all the bottles covered up. Then, have her unwrap the bottles and have her tell everyone what type of wine they were drinking, and one of the bottles will have a label that reads “Will you marry me?”
  26. Hire a friend to take photos of you both just for fun. Then, surprise her by getting down on one knee and proposing. You’ll have photos you’ll both cherish forever.
  27. On the big screen at your favorite sporting event.
  28. Take the tram ride from Palm Springs to Idyllwild and propose on the way up.
  29. During the water show in front of Bellagio in Las Vegas.
  30. Go to your favorite karaoke place and sing your favorite love song. Then, as the song ends, ask her to come up to the front, then propose in front of everyone!
  31. Carefully open a box of Cracker Jacks, steam open the prize packet and place the real engagement ring in and re-glue packet and box. Casually give her the box of Cracker Jacks during a movie and watch closely as she opens the prize.
  32. U2 fans? Propose at Joshua Tree National Park.
  33. Pop the question during “Say You Love Me” at any Phantom of the Opera production.
  34. Have a professional videographer follow you for an hour, under the premise that he or she is earning credits towards a film degree and needs to get footage at the park or on a beach. As the camera is taping a casual conversation, start to talk about your love for her, read a poem, and then get down on one knee and propose. You’ll have this precious moment caught on film, to share with your family & friends.
  35. Take out a small ad in the newspaper in a section she always reads, and write out your proposal. (Good idea to have a talented friend help with design.)
  36. Hide her ring in a bouquet of flowers with the note providing a clue that there is something unique about this arrangement.
  37. Hire a car service that has classic cars, such as vintage Rolls Royces, and drive around to romantic areas for an hour. Have the driver stop at a place that holds special meaning and propose. Then, spend the second hour of your elegant drive cuddling and enjoying your first hour as an engaged couple!
  38. Propose in the lounge of a romantic restaurant over a champagne toast. The next big surprise will come when you are seated at your table, and you pre-arranged to have her closest friends and family members there to celebrate in the engagement dinner.
  39. Write your own proposal poem and put it in a book that has her favorite poetry.
  40. Hide her engagement ring in a box of delicious chocolates!
  41. Work with a local community cable network to film a 30 second proposal that they’ll broadcast for a small donation on the leased access channel in your community. (Sometimes they charge only $100 or so and they’ll run your “television spot” multiple times for everyone to see again and again.)
  42. Spell out your proposal during a mock-game of Scrabble.
  43. Have the engagement ring store place the ring you selected in a case, with her name and “Will you marry me?” on the tag. Then, invite her to the store “just to look” and have the associate walk you to the case with this special proposal, followed by champagne and cake.
  44. Make her guess: for her birthday, give her a giant box, wrapped up. Have smaller boxes within each big box, so she has to unwrap multiple boxes before getting to the small box that contains the ring.
  45. Be her Knight in Shining Armor. (Rent the suit at a local costume shop or borrow one from the theatre department at a college or high school in your area.) Really wow her and arrange to ride up to her house or workplace on a white horse!

A Proposal Right Out of a Movie

The other night I had the opportunity to meet with a gentleman from Los Angeles who used the concierge service at Robbins Bros., World’s Biggest Engagement Ring Store. His girlfriend lives in England, and he was planning on a simple dinner at a restaurant in her hometown. When he visited the store looking for an engagement ring he learned of Robbins Bros. brand new complimentary concierge service. The concierge took his idea of a romantic dinner to another level, and soon he was on a plane to England with the diamond engagement ring in his pocket. The proposal took place at a very intimate restaurant, and when the dessert was presented to their table, this young man dropped to one knee and asked his girlfriend those four magical words: “Will You Marry Me?” After she said yes, they noticed all of the diners standing up and applauding. His now fiance told her she felt like her proposal was right out of a movie, and she couldn’t believe that he went to all this trouble to make it such a romantic and memorable event.

Happy Engagement!

Tony Romo

Steve, Tony Romo and Di

I haven’t seen many celebs in person, but I did have the opportunity to actually MEET Tony Romo, a bonafide sports celeb, at our Robbins Bros., World’s Biggest Engagement Ring Store grand opening in Dallas. I’m not a big football aficionado, but after meeting Tony Romo, I couldn’t help but turn into a Cowboys fan. Tony was just a sweet, classy, friendly, humble young man, and he was pretty oblivious to the fact that at least 50 of the 300 guests were single women, hoping and praying for a love connection with this famous quarterback. Sorry ladies, but I’m still pullin’ for him and Carrie to work it out.

And I hope to be invited to the wedding.

Di
